Security & Safety
The safety of children is a high priority and we operate a range of procedures to ensure that access to our premises is restricted to staff and parents. Each room in the building is protected by a coded lock and a fingerprint security system is used for dropping off and collecting children.

Nursery adopts fingerprint test for creche entry
Mar 14 2008 by Greg Tindle
A NEW fingerprint security system is being used to provide top-level safety for children being collected from a busy nursery. Anyone arriving to pick-up a child must first pass the fingerprint test before the youngster will be allowed to leave in a technology revolution to be used by a Cardiff nursery.
The fingerprint scanner – believed to be the first to be used in a Welsh nursery – has been installed by the Daisy Day Nursery in Llanishen and replaces the signing-out system still in common use by many other crèches and nurseries.
Only parents, family members and friends who have previously recorded their fingerprints on the nursery data bank will be allowed to collect their youngsters. They must first place their forefinger on the scanner before they will be allowed entry to the nursery and when it’s recognised will be given the all clear to pick up the child.
Nursery founder Abeer Bafaqih said: "It has been introduced to provide maximum security for children and staff. Fingerprinting is one of the security measures we have in place. It is not a single solution, but it is certainly a major advancement in technology that I am keen to use. Thankfully we have never been involved in a situation where a child has been released to an unidentified person – far from it. We have even kept people waiting outside until clearance has been given by the mum or dad."
Mum Nicola Rees, 28, of Caerphilly, whose two-year-old daughter Caitlin attends the nursery, said: "Using fingerprints to identify people is much easier and safer. The main benefit for me and other mums is providing security and peace of mind."
The fingerprint security measure replaces the signing out system and, according to Abeer, has helped reassure parents who use the nursery, which caters for up to 54 children.
"In the event of an emergency where a child cannot be collected by a fingerprinted relative or friend, then we still have a password procedure. This password is specific to every child, but parents would still be contacted by phone before the child is released. My staff and I know every single parent that comes through the nursery but the fingerprinting system gives a great deal of extra comfort to them. As a working mum, I understand that peace of mind is paramount to the well-being of anyone’s child. It’s a significant investment for a small business such as ours and we pay £300 a quarter for the system but it’s well worth it."
